Use a primer

I personally advise you to always always always use an eye primer before you apply your shadow. It has worked very well for me and I use a primer everyday underneath my eyeshadow. It intensifies the color and more importantly helps the makeup stay on the whole day and to not crease.

Creasing is a big problem for women, and me especially because I have oily eye lids, therefore a primer does the trick perfectly. The best eye primer and my favorite I have used is the Urban Decay primer potion in Original. It's amazing and I highly recommend this product and it lasts you a looooooong time. Just apply a little to your eyelids before eyeshadow application and bam you're good for the day. Honestly my eyeshadow stays on for 10 hours without moving. It's pretty effin' magical.
My all time favorite primer is like I said Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original, $19, and I recommend this one above all.

Another great one is Too Faced Shadow Insurance, $18, I personally haven't used it yet, but lots of people swear by it.

Another primer I like is Lancome's Aquatique eye base in Nude, $24.50, it works especially well with Lancome shadows.

And lastly there are paint pots you can use as a base. $17.50

There are lots more primers you can use, but these are the ones I would recommend most. Hope you go out and get one, they are very useful.

THROW OUT YOUR APPLICATORS!

Sooooooo, you know how most eyeshadow palettes come with eyeshadow applicators?
Welllllll, THROW THEM OUT!!! And invest in buying some nice brushes, they do the job even better. Using a blending brush is 10x easier for blending out your eyeshadow, so seriously guys, get some brushes. They will last you a long time if you properly take care of them and I find it easier using brushes than applicators, and the shadow goes on much smoother and nicer.

One of my favorite brushes for applying eyeshadow is actually the e.l.f professional eye shadow brush
This brush costs $1.49--I would say worth it! Way worth it!

Another one of my favorite brushes for shadow is Samantha Chapman's Real Techniques domed shadow brush. (Pictured in middle)

These brushes come in a set and are worth the price, $17.99, did I mention these brushes are amazingly soft and good quality?? ( ;

Aaaand my favorite blending brush ever is of course...MAC 217.

A little more pricey, $22.50, but oh my gosh worth it all the way.

So I really hope you consider throwing out your applicators and buy a brush!! Trust me, application will be easier and better.

Beauty Routine you NEED to do

So I was just thinking about how so many women have bad habits when it comes to their daily beauty routine, mostly nighttime routine. I know sometimes people get lazy and too tired to do these things but I can't express how important it is to do them daily. So first of all, you SHOULD be removing your eye makeup every night before you go to bed! Lots of women leave it on nightly and wear their left over makeup the next day. Can I just say, that is unsanitary and like your skin, you need to let your eyes breath. So they cannot constantly be sitting in makeup for 8 hours as you sleep. This can cause irritation of the eyes as well, especially if you have more sensitive eyes. And plus, if you rub your eyes, you're sure to rub off your mascaraed eyelashes, I know I hate losing lashes.

Next, you should always always always wash your face in the morning and before you go to bed. Taking care of your skin is the same as taking care of your teeth; you wouldn't go a day or two without brushing your teeth would you? It's bad for you.
My mother always told me a day you don't wash your face or remove your makeup, is a day more that your skin ages. And this may not be completely true, but just wash your face okay?? :D But one thing that is true if you don't wash your face twice daily is that your pores will get clogged, leading to blemishes. Acne people, ACNE! Who wants that? So go out and buy yourself a facial cleanser and a moisturizer, don't want dry skin either.

You can get any face wash and moisturizer at a local drugstore, but cleansers I would recommend are more high end. Clinique has some really good ones, I personally like the Three Step Skin Care. They carry ones for all skin types, whether you're oily, dry, or combination. A lot of the high end products also come with a toner, and that is optional, because although the toner helps minimize pores, some people have more sensitive skin and it may burn when they use it. And just so you know splurging on your skin care is allowed because your skin is important hehe.

Lancome has some really good cleansers too, Galatee Confort and Creme Radiance in particular, but what you have to do is find the perfect cleanser for you, and the beauty consultants at makeup counters will definitely help you out with that.

So take care of your face, your skin. You want it to be hydrated, because your skin breathes, so wash your face two times a day and let your skin be youthful and breath.

Open up and brighten your eyes

Taking it back to basics ya'll.
I love to brighten and open up my eyes, by doing one simple step really. And within seconds, your eye looks gorgeous. A lot of women do this, but you'd be surprised at how many don't and...should, but certainly don't have to...but should! Just kidding...or am I? ( ;
Below is a video of Pixi2woo doing it around 7:22, it is quite simple as you can see. But you'll find it will pop more if you do a smokey eye or darker makeup.

After you've got your eye makeup on, simply take an eye pencil brush, (this type of brush works best), or even your finger and dab it on your highlight color (the one you apply just below your brow bone or any other bright shimmery color) and apply it to the tear duct area, and a bring it a tad bit in near your lashes below if you'd like and vuala, your eye looks gorg. What I love using to brighten up my eye is MAC's pigment powder in Vanilla, it looks so lustrous and pretty. This is especially a good look to do if you're going out, and it looks beautiful when the light hit your eyes.

Another way to open up your eyes and make them appear bigger is to fill in your waterline with a white pencil or cream, nude color. That gives the illusion of a bigger eye, so this is great for small eyes. Below is a video of this look, starting around 1:54 is where Sam Chapman discusses it.

So I recommend doing this and trying out these looks if you've never done them before, it will absolutely make your eyes looks more uhmazing and stunnnnninging!!

Using Eyeshadow as Liner

I love using eyeshadow as eyeliner. I find it is much softer and subtle and not as harsh. I do still love using gel and pencil liner, but I find it easier and faster to use shadow as liner, you don't have to be as precise with it. I mostly wear eyeshadow underneath my eye, instead of doing a harsh line, I like to keep it especially soft, you do not want to be looking like a raccoon. And using a dark eyeshadow as an eyeliner on your lid works very well with a soft matte look. And remember to use an eye pencil brush to soften up the liner. You definitely don't have to, but I think it makes it look better. And you can build the color as well.

This is a Victoria Beckham look done by Nic Chapman using eyeshadow as a liner and see how much softer it looks? Such a beautiful look.

I find it easier using a shadow, you have more control over it because of the blending and it's not as harsh of a line. You can also achieve a more dramatic look by dampening your brush and using the eyeshadow wet for a liner. Again, it appears softer but has more vibrancy and deepness to it.

So I say if you're not already using eyeshadow as eyeliner, give it a go.

Blending is key

Blending is a key ingredient in getting your makeup to do what you want it to. Without blending your makeup just sits there and doesn't do much for you. Although there are looks where you don't need a lot of blending.

When applying eye makeup, you want to first place the shadow where you want it to be then blend it to give it a softer look. Rough around the edges is not a good makeup look, you want one color to blend into another to make it look seamless and flawless.

Something that you do not want are harsh lines, so blending really helps soften up those lines, and your makeup looks more youthful and natural. So I advise investing in a blending brush, it will be your most used tool in your makeup kit. My favorite is MAC's 217, just make sure you take good care of your brush so it can last you.

Blending has a lot to do with control, make sure not to handle your brush too harshly on your lid, keep it soft and try not to over blend, otherwise you're just blending all your colors into one, and that won't work if you want dimension.

Yet Another Makeup Haul

Another makeup haul, I know, I know, but I really wanted these things!!!

I got this MAC pigment in Chocolate and I just love it! Such a pretty color.

This is MAC's Peaches Blush, I really wanted a peachy blush and love this one.

When I saw these Go Palettes came out by Coastal Scents, I couldn't help myself, especially since they were only $8.95, plus CS always has deals going on. Such great colors and they all go on very well.
I will do a review on both palettes soon.

Drugstore Haul

So I got some stuff from Walgreens and Target...so that means HAUL!! Holla!

Lately I have been obsessed with blush and bronzer, as you'll see.

I saw this blush/bronzer and the packaging was so presh, I just had to get it. It's really cool actually, when you open it, you can lift the blush and on the other side is a mirror and a brush. I bought the shade Poppy Pavot and I'm digging it so far.

I really like this blush, in shade Medium Coral, but I wish it picked up more color and I'm sorry but Maybelline just has hideous packaging.

I absolutely love this product, Physicians Formula bronzer, blush, and eye shadow, in shade Vegas Strip. This is my favorite bronzer by far. And the fact that it doubles as eyeshadow is amazing!

When I first saw this at Walgreens, I thought it looked so pretty, then after trying it, not so much. The color barely went on and stayed on, but I find that if you wet the brush then apply it, it goes on way better and looks gorg. Maybelline's Eye Studio in Ivy Icon.

When I saw this lipstick I really liked it, Wet n Wild 902C, but when trying it on it didn't look very good. So I tried adding a gloss on top of it and it really changed the color and made it beautiful. This would make a great lipstick for Thanksgiving, it's got that fall/autumn look to it.

I just had to get this, Covergirl's natureluxe gloss balm in Grenache. It's a sheer great color, giving a hint of color on your lips.

Lancome Haul

Here's a haul of some Lancome things I got on the day Alex Sanchez, the makeup artist, came. Some of these things I purchased and some came free in the gift I got.

These brushes, blending and shadow, came in the free gift I got. I love the shadow brush, although I wish I had more control with the blending one, but I do still like it.

I absolutely love these two eye shadows, Infinitely Indigo (Left) and Latte (Right). They go on so well and Latte is perfect as a highlight color.

And not pictured (because I got lazy), is Lancome eyelash primer, it's white and it works great. Just apply it to your lashes before your normal mascara. I also got Defincils mascara, which I love.

I was in need of eye makeup remover, so I got Bi-Facil, which I love. It's so soft on the eyes.

I also got Lancome Maqicomplet concealer in shade Light Buff.

I got this great Lancome eye pencil, in Black Ebony.

And lastly, I got these two great lipsticks in a free gift. The first one is Pale Lip, it's such a great nude color and MY FAVE is the one pictured below, Red Stiletto. Just look at it people. It's awesome!!!

So that's all I got from Lancome, and soon I have a drugstore haul coming, along with a couple MAC products I got.

How many times do you wash your face daily?
Twice, morning and night.

What skin type do you have?
Combination, but lately it's been dry.

Do you use eye cream?
No, but I know I should. I will in a couple years, when I get unlazy.

What foundation do you use?
Well, currently I am using Lancome's Ageless Minerale loose powder, but I am going to start liquid foundation more and that one is called Teint Idole Fresh Wear.

How about concealer?
Lancome Maquicomplet.

What do you think of fake lashes?
Um absolutely love them, wish I wore them more often.

Did you know you're supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
Yes, but I never do, sorry. I should probably start doing that, but it just seems like wasting mascara, wow I'm cheap.

What brand of mascara do you use?
I use so many, because what I like to do is put 3 or 4 different ones on at the same time, it gives me some lush lashes. Maybelline Colossal Volume Express, Benefit Bad Gal Lash, Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara, and one of my favorites, Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme, although mine just dried up so I have to throw it out. Grr.

Sephora or MAC?
Hmm, Sephora has more brands, but I do love me some MAC!!

What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
Mostly brushes, as well as q-tips and kleenex.

Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?
Yes, every time! I mostly use Urban Decay primer potion and Lancome Aquatique.

For the face?
No, but I am hoping to get Smashbox face primer soon, for Christmas I'm hoping. Cross yo fingers!

What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
Toughy, but I would say MAC's satin taupe.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
Lately I have been loving using shadow as liner, but I would say I use gel mostly and sometimes pencil.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Sometimes, and it gets on my contact and I have to change my contact, it sucks! hah

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
LOVE THEM!!! Especially MAC's pigment powders, my fave is vanilla.

Do you use mineral makeup?
Yes I do, I use Lancome's ageless minerale loose podwer, it makes the skin look amazing!

What is your favorite lipstick?
I don't wear a lot of lipstick, but my all time favorite is Lancome's Valentine, when I'm feeling daring. It's a bright red. And I just got Red Stiletto from Lancome also and is also a bright, bit more deep red. My favorite wearable lipstick is Nicola Robert's Dainty Doll 005, it's a pale pinky shade with a bit of gold sparkle in it. (This brand is a British brand and is made for people with pale skin)

How about lip gloss?
I just spent 10 minutes looking for my favorite lipgoss, to find out I lost it, UGHHHH It was my favorite ever and now I'm sad! It was a Smashbox lipgloss. May it RIP....until I find it that is! But my other favorite is a Lancome Juicy Tubes one in Rose Water.

What is your favorite blush to use?
MAC Dainty blush.

Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
No, but I have bought a few things from Amazon.

Do you like drugstore makeup?
It depends, because I don't normally buy drugstore makeup, I have very few, just because I find high end products do more for me, and it is well worth the money you pay for. But I do love drugstore mascara and there are some products that are good, I recently bought a few items at the drugstore and I love them. I hate their eye shadows though, just because they don't go on or stay on as well as the more expensive ones, but blush and lipstick or balm is great.

Did you ever consider taking makeup classes?
I really want to now, but in Iowa, there's not much, but I will find one hopefully.

Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Nope, when it comes to my makeup, I am a perfectionist, so everything has to look clean and perfect, and that means I cannot be clumsy.

Name a makeup crime that you hate?
Women who simply do not know how to apply their makeup because it can be the simplest thing in the world. Too much lip liner and really bright colorful makeup all the way up to the brow, that just looks hideous. There is a way to make bright colors look good.

Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
I love adding a pop of color to my look, usually a bright color on my waterline or underneath my eye, on the lower lash line. I do like neutral shades, but I love having fun with colors way too much. Purple and green are my favorite colors to do.

Which celebrity has great makeup?
Miss Kim Kardashian of course always has great makeup on, Demi Lovato too. Rihanna, Pixie Lott, and Cheryl Cole.

If you could leave the house using just ONE makeup item, what would you use?
Mascara of course.

Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
Of course, I love makeup, but sometimes my face just needs to breath...and looks damn good doing it, JK! hah

Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
Yes, but I do love how sexual makeup can make you look haha

In your opinion, what's the best makeup line?
Hmm, MAC is great, they have awesome shadows and brushes, but I do love Lancome for skincare. Urban Decay also has the best makeup palettes and eyeshadows...so 3 way tie???

What do you think of makeup?
It's pretty awesome!

Bad Beauty Habits to Break

This post is based on Blair's new video she posted about breaking bad beauty habits and I'm going to do the same, just talk about the ones I need to break.

My bad beauty habits to break:

1. Biting my nails.

I know I should not do this, but a lot of the time I can't help it, once I start I can't stop. Although there was this one week a few years ago where I did stop biting my nails...then addiction kicked in. I don't know if I will ever stop doing this, but I really hope I do.

2. Washing my hair everyday.

It's so bad for your hair if you wash it everyday, but I just love showers so much that I take one nearly everyday. I feel so clean and refreshed afterwards.

3. Popping Pimples

Unfortunatelywhen I get a pimple, I pop it. I kind of like popping my pimps, weird? Yeah, I know, but also because you can't go out in public with a big ass pimple about to pop on your face.

4. Exfoliate

I wish I did this more, but I don't. I actually rarely exfoliate, but I am going to change that by exfoliating once a week, your skin needs to breath.

5. Rub my Eyes

When I wake up I rub eyes, and lately I have even been catching myself on it and trying to stop, but it's like I can't. Very strange. But I will definitely try and stop.

6. Sunscreen

I don't ever wear sunscreen, and when I say never, I mean NEVER! I'm a horrible person, I know, but I honestly hate the smell of it and the way it feels on my skin. I even hate lotions or moisturizes that smell like SPF. Gross. But the good thing is that I don't sun tan and I try to avoid sunny places, which is why I am so pale. But remember, even if it's cloudy, you should wear sunscreen because it still affects our skin.

7. Not Washing Makeup Brushes

I don't wash my brushes as often as I should. You're supposed to wash them about every two weeks, I was them about once a month, but if I use them on my friends I'll wash them sooner. This is something I will definitely work on, because I actually do like washing my brushes, sometimes I just get lazy or forget.

8. Wet Hair All Day

This one is terrible, I know. Since I have such thick hair, it takes forever to dry and manage, so a lot of the time when I get out of the shower, I will leave my hair down to dry when I'm getting ready, but I'll put it up, still wet when I leave. And I leave it wet, up in a bun for most of the day. That is very damaging to the hair, and I need to change it. But most days I don't have time to blow dry my hair, but I'll try and make time.

9. Old makeup/Mascaras

I use old makeup/mascaras, I know we should change up our mascara every 3-6 months, but I still have some that are older than that, but they work fine. Whoops!

These are all of my bad beauty habits I can think of at the moment, I'm sure I have more, but these are the big ones.

Why Everybody NEEDS Urban Decay Naked Palette

It's the perfect palette! It's got neutral shades for light, daytime wear and darker shades for a more smokey eye look. The colors are absolutely gorgeous as well and totally wearable, it's for everybody. And only $48.00, well worth it I would say!

Colors from left to right: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal.

It's personally my favorite makeup palette, and a makeup artists best friend. Most of the colors are very pigmented, and it's got it's share of shimmery colors, along with two matte colors, which I love and use nearly everyday. It comes with a mini Urban Decay primer potion and the new palettes come with an eye shadow brush, instead of a 24/7 glide on pencil.

My favorite shade is darkhorse, I love using that color to create a smoked out look. Creep is really good for that too.
I cannot rave enough about this product...so do me a favor and just go out and get yourself one because I promise you, it will be worth it! ( ;

Alex Sanchez Lancome Makeup Event

As you know today was the Alex makeup event at Lancome in Younkers, and it was so fun. I had an appointment with my sister.

Elf 10 Brush Collection Review

Overall, this 10 piece brush collection is good. I was surprised how good it was for only $10. The only brush I dislike is the powder brush because it is too rough for my face. It feels like it's scratching my face more than anything. Other than that, these brushes are pretty good and I'm pretty happy to have purchased them. My favorite is the shadow brush, it works just as well as a high end shadow brush. The only brush this set is missing is a blending, fluffy brush. A set definitely needs one of those. Hope you guys can go out and buy yourselves a set, it's worth it.

Makeup Trends

Gossmakeupartist AKA Wayne made a video talking about the new fall and winter trends and I just wanted to kind of talk about them and discuss which ones I liked, etc.

The Color Orange

This is big on runways now; it's all about brightening up the face and adding that pop of color. I am a fan of the orange, although I haven't yet tried it. I haven't felt that daring yet, but I would do it, but with subtlety. You don't want your makeup looking like a crack whore or anything. But I do really want to try orange lip color, I think that looks lush.

Thick Eyebrows

Duh, of course I'm a fan of this look because I got me some thick ass brows. I hate seeing girls who have thin penciled in brows, so to see bold, empowering brows is nice! Lately they've been trendy, but baby girl, I've always had them thick! That's right! But I agree with Wayne when he chooses middle ground on this. You have to shape your brows the way they suit your face, whether it be thicker or thinner. Do what suits you best and work it!

Colorful Smokey Eye

I don't know why this is trendy just now, because I've always been into this. You can make any color a smokey eye, be it green, light purple, blue, etc. Fun look! I'm a fan of this for sure.

Red Lip

I don't know how well I can pull off a red lip, but I am a fan...it's hot! I normally only bring out a bright red lip on special occasions like Halloween or crazy nights with the girls, but it's definitely a look for everyone to try. And I wouldn't recommend just putting any old red on, you have to match the red with your tone. There are reds that look horrific on me. So like Wayne said, go on and try different reds until you find your right one.

Nude Makeup

I am definitely a fan of the nude makeup! Although I LOVE eye makeup the best, a natural nude look is very refreshing. You can look beautiful with little or no makeup too. You look fresh faced, and lets face it, you probably look younger. I recently wore nude makeup to work and my coworker complimented me on my skin and my face saying it looked flawless, which it's not, but it felt great hearing that when all I was wearing was loose powder.

Eyeliner

I love eyeliner! It really brings the whole eye look together. I am personally not a big fan of the cat, winged eye, solely because I can't wear it myself because I have hooded eyes. I am well jel of you who can wing out your liner because I love that look on other people.

So those are the top trends this fall, feel free to give them a try, and think outside the box.

Alex Sanchez at Lancome

Exciting news! Celebrity makeup artist Alex Sanchez, who works closely with Lancome, is having an event at Younkers' Lancome counter in Coral Ridge Mall (in Coralville, IA) on Monday November 14th. I am excitttttteddd!! Once a year he comes around to Lancome to give makeovers. He is very good with his hands and they always smell good! (That's a plus) He has such a light technique, it doesn't even feel like he's touching your face. But in the end, it always looks great.
Here's how the event works, you make an appointment through one of the ladies at the Lancome counter prior to the date obviously. Then Alex brings his fabulous team in to cleanse your face and apply foundation, bronzer, and blush. That's where Alex swoops in and makes ya look all gorgeous!

As you can tell, he works it! He's pretty serious when he does makeup, it's so precious though!

Makeup Phone Apps

I recently got two makeup phone apps, in which you can virtually create your own makeup looks on models.

Lancome Make-Up & ModiFace MakeUp

Both free, great apps, definitely worth getting if you're interested.

The Lancome app talks more about the products they have and make-up tips. Makeup artist and spokesperson for Lancome, Michelle Phan http://www.youtube.com/michellephan
does a number of makeup tutorials. And who wouldn't love that with her sensual voice?
What's also great about this app is that you can actually create your own look using a model, but the only negatives I would have is that you can't apply blush to her face and has a lack of color range. I'd rather do her blush than her nails to be honest, but it's still a great, fun app.

I really like the ModiFace Virtual makeover app. This one allows you more freedowm with your colors and looks. Ranging from hundreds of products and even the ability to upload your own photo to use as a model is great. I wish the makeup was a bit more visible, but other than that it's lots of fun.

Clinique Chubby Stick Review

Today my mom gave me a Chubby Stick by Clinique. YAY!!! I have wanted one of these since they came out and so glad I finally have one. I have the shade 06 Woppin' Watermelon and I love this one. I'm young, so I don't normally wear lots of lipstick, I stick to lip balms, chapsticks, and lip glosses. But I don't normally like a lot of color on my lip, although a hint of color I love. And this one does that for me. It is so natural and feels very moisturizing up on my lipsss. It's like wearing chapstick that won't dry you out; very moisturizing. Plus it's not sticky, I hate sticky lip stuff.

So I would highly recommend you go out and buy one of these, it's well worth it's price, $15.00. Can't wait to buy more!

First Blog Post--New makeup!

Hey everyone, which is pretty much only me at this point, holla, and maybe a few other people creeping! This is my first blog post, as you can tell. And what better to post than, MAKEUP!

Yesterday I went to Target and was just shopping around for some cheap makeup brushes and found an elf set that includes 10 brushes for $10, hecka good deal!

And once I use them, I will do a review on them! What is crazy is that I have never used e.l.f., not their brushes, or makeup, and I know everybody should have something elf just because it's cheap but I'm not too keen on the quality. We'll have to see. But sometimes cheap overrules it all, if you're poor like the rest of us.
